The State of Mississippi Jobs

In 2016, Mississippi's average income was the lowest in the US at $41,754. However, the economy has managed to stay afloat although it's in decline. The industries that continue to sustain the economy are supported by several top companies. Tyson Foods, Nissan North America, Howard Industries and Ashley Furniture Homestore are some of the companies that provide jobs for the Mississippi labor force. However, other industries that fall outside of the top performers provide jobs as well.

The military is one such industry. Keesler and Kesler AFBs are major employers in the state. Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest private-sector employer in Mississippi and the biggest shipbuilder in the United States. The company employs more than 12,500 Mississippi residents. John C. Stennis Space Center is NASA's largest rocket testing facility. There are also new science and technology jobs with the University of Southern Mississippi through its premiere polymer science program.

New Business

Although the economy lags behind other states, it continues to be attractive to companies that want to do business and lower costs. In fact, the areas surrounding Hattiesburg have attracted General Dynamics, Stion and Sofidel, all new businesses.

Jackson is the capital of Mississippi, and it accounts for many of the state jobs in the area. In addition, there are federal jobs throughout the state.

There are still a wide variety of diverse jobs available to job seekers although Mississippis economy continues to trail behind the rest of the US. Agriculture is the wind beneath the wings of Mississippi's economy and accounts for many of the jobs in Mississippi hiring now. However, job seekers can expect to find employment in other industries as well.
